How to Expand Your Wardrobe Without Emptying Your Pockets!

Welcome back to the Modest Man Style Guide!

Tonight I am going to tell you guys how I have personally built my wardrobe on the cheap! Also how I have found some of my favorite shirts.

So, as most if not all of you know of eBay right? Well eBay has been the key to my wardrobe, I have bought most of my clothes from there. eBay is an excellent source for find name brand clothing at budget costs!

I am a big fan of anything Levi, but if you have ever gone into a Levi outlet store, you know just to buy a pair of jeans is typically $50 or more. However, I have purchased many pairs of Levi jeans from eBay for less than $20!

As you can see, a quick eBay search will produce A LOT of Levi jeans at a very affordable costs!

BUT BE WARNED: eBay is also full of counterfeit clothing brands! It is crucial you research how to spot authentic clothing!

Another good indicator of if an eBay seller is selling authentic garments, is by viewing their sellers reputation.

Notice on the sellers information: they have 99.9% positive feedback, as well as a top rated seller award. These are also good indicators that they are selling authentic garments.

So while this may seem as a no brainer tip, I have found a lot of my friends still buy their clothes at retail stores, and while this is not a bad thing at all, if you are like me and on a budget, it is simply not a feasible option if you want multiple pairs of jeans, shirts, etc.

Another great option if you are looking to buy clothes directly from a wholesaler is 6pm.com. 6pm is a discount wholesaler of both men and womens designer clothes. They carry everything from major names brands, such as levis, to designer brands like Mavi or Kenneth Cole. while you won't find as good of deals like on eBay, you will likely find a better selection of upscale clothing that is brand new and at a marked down price.

In comparison, here is a sample of their Levi jeans selection and their respective prices:

This site is also a great tool for you to expand your brand awareness of clothing brands that are not quite on the mainstream attention.

  1. Hi Connor,

This was a really informative blog post. I've actually bought clothes from eBay before and they turned out to be counterfeit. The seller was actually based in Detroit (pawn shop) and I was surprised to see I got a counterfeit pair of jeans as he had a 98% positive feedback rating. Because of this, I've been very reluctant to shop on eBay. Was it just a one time thing or is it because I ordered from a pawn shop? I don't know. As far as 6pm.com goes, I'll be sure to check them out the next I go shopping! Their website looks pretty nice.

On a side note, Levis are also my favorite brand for jeans!

    1. Adrian,

      Thanks for the feedback!

So sorry to hear about your bad eBay experience! It is something that can happen on eBay im afraid.. In cases like that, it is always good to contact the seller immediately and try to straighten things out.

Another point I should have included in my post was to check the return policy. Sometimes if the seller has a no return stipulation, it can be a red flag for me.

I would encourage you to give eBay another shot, just make sure to look into the sellers credibility, check the return policy, and make sure you are paying a reasonable price for the items.

      Best regards, and happy shopping!

  2. I have had great success purchasing name-brand jeans on eBay. I have also sold over 20 name-brand pairs of jeans on eBay as well. Wonderful place to get great deals, and also sell your jeans at a higher price than local boutique shops are willing to pay.

    1. Zackary,

Glad to hear man! I too have had great success on eBay. I do not think I have ever bought any fraudulent clothing either. But it is something we must be mindful of when shopping via third party outlets online.

      Best regards,

  3. Conor,

Really cool blog. I am always looking for deals online and in store. The malls don't really cater to us guys, so we have to really have to shop around. I never thought about clothes shopping on eBay, that does seem like a good idea. I will check out the 6pm website, thanks for the tips!

    1. David,

Thanks so much for the compliment! Glad to hear my blog has been of use to you!

And yes! online shopping is honestly the best option for most guys to find good clothes. Great point about the malls, it is true they cater mostly to women, making our clothing options limited.

      Thanks for the feedback!
